The roots of Memorial Day go back to the Civil War but it wasn’t until 1971 that it became a national holiday.Since then, it has been observed on the last Monday of May as part of a three-day weekend. But here at Virginia Toy and Novelty we are reminded that it is more than just a chance to take a day off.

Naval Air Station Oceana (Virginia Beach, VA)
If you’ve ever been on the phone with us you may have wondered where the jet noise was coming from?Well, Virginia Toy and Novelty neighbors this bustling airfield, which is home to seventeen strike fighter squadrons of F/A-18 Hornets and F/A-18 Super Hornets.
Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek (Virginia Beach, VA):
This base – geared predominantly to amphibious operations – is the East Coast home of the Navy’s Sea, Air, Land Teams, commonly known as the Navy SEALs.
Naval Station Norfolk (Norfolk, VA)
This massive base is the world’s largest naval facility, supporting five carrier groups (including our country’s newest active carrier, the USS George H.W. Bush).
Langley Field (Hampton, VA):
Established in 1916 by the Army Air Service, this is one of the oldest active airfields in the country. Today it is currently home to several squadrons of F-22 Raptors.
Newport News Shipbuilding (Newport News, VA):
For 127 years, this facility has built some of the most famous ships in American naval history and currently builds U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and submarines. Under construction is the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford
